Detroit Commandery Number 1, Knights Templar

Every Christian Should become a Knights Templar

Who Founded the Knights Templar

The Knights Templar (originally known as The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon) were founded when two French knights (Hugues de Payens and his relative Godfrey de Saint-Omer) approached King Baldwin II of Jerusalem and sold the concept of forming the Knights Templar. The original members of the Knights Templar included Payen de Montdidier, Archambaud de St. Agnan, Andre de Montbard, Geoffrey Bison, Rossal, Gondamer, and Count Hugh of Champagne.
